Green Gem Boxwood (Buxus ‘Green Gem’) is a compact, dense evergreen shrub valued for its neat, rounded form and excellent winter color. It typically matures at 3–4 feet tall and wide, making it an ideal choice for low hedges, foundation plantings, and formal borders. Green Gem Boxwood has a slow to moderate growth rate, usually growing 3–6 inches per year, and maintains a naturally tidy shape with minimal pruning. It grows best in full sun to partial shade, with some protection from harsh winter winds and late afternoon sun in colder climates to prevent winter burn. This boxwood prefers well-drained soil and benefits from consistent moisture, especially during establishment, but does not tolerate standing water. Mulching to keep roots cool and evenly moist, along with good air circulation, helps ensure long-term health and performance.
