The Norway Spruce (Picea abies) is a fast-growing, evergreen conifer native to Europe and widely planted in North America for ornamental use, windbreaks, and timber. It is easily recognized by its tall, pyramidal form, gracefully drooping branchlets, and dark green, needle-like leaves. Mature trees can reach heights of 60 to 100 feet or more, with a spread of 25 to 30 feet, making them ideal for large landscapes. The needles are stiff and sharply pointed, arranged spirally around the branches, and the tree produces large, cylindrical cones that can be up to 6 inches long. Norway Spruce is valued for its hardiness, rapid growth, and resistance to many pests and diseases. It is also a favorite during the holiday season, often used as a classic Christmas tree.
