Tulip Polar

  Tulip Poplar, also known as Tulip Tree (Liriodendron tulipifera), is a fast-growing native shade tree admired for its distinctive, tulip-shaped leaves and showy yellow-green flowers with orange markings in late spring. At maturity, it typically reaches 70–90 feet tall, with some specimens growing even taller, and spreads 35–50 feet wide, making it best suited for large landscapes and open areas. Tulip Poplar has a fast growth rate, often adding 2–3 feet or more per year under good conditions. It grows best in full sun and prefers deep, moist, well-drained soils that are slightly acidic. Consistent moisture is important, especially when young, but the tree does not tolerate compacted, dry, or poorly drained soils. Due to its size and strong vertical growth, Tulip Poplar needs ample space for roots and canopy, and performs best when planted away from buildings, sidewalks, and overhead lines.
