Yoshino Cherry (Prunus × yedoensis) is a graceful ornamental flowering tree celebrated for its abundant display of soft pink to nearly white blossoms that appear in early spring before the leaves emerge. At maturity, it typically reaches 30–40 feet tall with a broad, spreading canopy 30–35 feet wide, creating a beautiful shade and seasonal focal point. Yoshino Cherry has a moderate to fast growth rate, often growing 1–2 feet per year under favorable conditions. It performs best in full sun for optimal flowering and prefers well-drained, fertile soil with moderate moisture. While adaptable to a range of soil types, it does not tolerate poorly drained or compacted soils. Good air circulation helps reduce disease pressure, and light pruning should be done after flowering if needed, making Yoshino Cherry an excellent choice for lawns, streetscapes, and park-like settings.
