Royal Purple Smoke

  Royal Purple Smoketree (Cotinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’) is a striking deciduous large shrub or small tree prized for its deep burgundy-purple foliage and airy, smoke-like plumes of flowers that appear in late spring to early summer. It typically grows 10–15 feet tall with a rounded, spreading habit. Royal Purple smoketree performs best in full sun, which enhances leaf color, and prefers well-drained soil, though it tolerates poor, rocky, or dry sites once established. It is drought tolerant, low maintenance, and benefits from good air circulation. This cultivar is cold hardy in USDA Zones 5–8.
